The College of Engineering, Guindy completed its 200th anniversary in the year 1994. It was started as a Survey School in the year 1794 and was established as a college in 1859. It was finally set up into a technical institute in 1861. The University offers 18 UG, 35 PG (Regular) and 34 PG Self-supporting courses in the field of science, technology, and humanities. CEG has 16 Departments, 6 University Affiliated Centres, and 12 Research Centres where research programs are offered.
The academic, research and consultancy activities have been broadened by the college continues to meet the socio-economic and technological needs of the changing times. It has link-ups with some premier institutions and organizations like USAID, UNCHS, Ford Foundation, European Economic Community and the Governments of Germany and UK. It is also the first college in the country which has its own postage stamp. The Department of Posts has brought out a postage stamp to mark the 200th anniversary of this great institution.
CEG, Chennai was ranked 7 among engineering colleges in India by Outlook India in 2017 and 11th by The Week. College of Engineering Guindy, Anns University have committees of students who intersperse between administration and students. Those committees are taking care of all the activities of the college right from organizing Seminars, Club Events, Workshops and even coordinating Placements where one can find an exposure.
