Indian Institute of Technology - Roorkee is one of the prominent institutes in engineering & technology. Institute playing an important role in the development of the nation by producing efficient and dynamic engineers & scientist, who have the problem-solving ability & innovative thinking. Institute strives hard for the development of its learners for which IIT Roorkee emphasis on hands on training that gives students more knowledge about their programs. Institute provides rigors training through its erudite faculty. The Institute has completed the 150th year of its existence in October 1996. On September 21, 2001, an Ordinance issued by the Government of India declared it as the nation's seventh Indian Institute of Technology. Institute not just focus on academics but they also provide some extracurricular activities like organizing seminars, workshops, guest lecturers from industry expert etc. The vision of the institute is to be the fountainhead of new ideas and innovations in science and technology and continue to be a source of pride for all Indians.

The Institute offers a merit-cum-means scholarship to 25% of undergraduate students. Students admitted to the 2-year M.Sc. degree in sciences are also awarded merit-cum-means scholarships. A number of scholarships, teaching/research assistantship schemes provide financial support to students of M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs. Sponsored (full-time as well as part-time), self-financing foreign students and M.B.A. students are, however, not eligible for benefits of this scheme.
