About College

National Institute of Technology, Silchar came into existence in the year 1967 as Regional Engineering College in Assam. Institute was designated as NIT in 2002 as one of the 30 National Institute of Technology and declared an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act, 2007. NIT Silchar was ranked 53 among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2017.

NIT, Silchar offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in science, technology, management and humanities in several disciplines with the aim to train and transform young men and women into responsible thinking engineers, technologists and scientists, to motivate them to attain professional excellence and to inspire them to proactively engage themselves for the betterment of the society.

Institute has its own Placement Cell for the guidance in the Summer internship and Placement procedure. It works under the guidance of the Training and Placement Officer in consultation with FIC. Regular Personality Development sessions, workshops, and seminars are conducted to prepare the students fully to face the placement process.
