TOEFL refers to Test of English as Foreign Language. It is an English language proficiency test that one can take to study or work in foreign countries to gather international exposure. The test conducts on 50 test dates per year to check the ability of candidates to use and understand advanced level English. TOEFL scores are accepted by almost 10,000 universities and institutions, located in over 150 countries, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the U.K., and all across Europe and Asia.
The test evaluates the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of candidates to ensure whether the students can effectively complete the academic tasks or not. The test conducts in online or computer-based mode. The scores remain valid for 02 years after the test date.

ETS has not mentioned any specific eligibility criteria that a candidate should fulfill to apply for TOEFL Examination. However, candidates should have passed their high school or equivalent are eligible to take the exam.
Aspirants can apply for TOEFL 2019 in four possible ways that are online, by phone, by mail, and in person at the TOEFL registration centre. There is a separate link for different test cities hence, only apply through a relevant link. The registration link is available on the official website of ETS (exam conducting body) which will be dysfunctional seven days prior to the exam date.
Prior to 04 days of exam date, candidates can cancel his/her registration. However, candidates will only receive the half registration fee in US dollars. Also, note that there will be no cash refund. Alongside, candidates have to produce the required ID documents at the exam centre to process the refund.
The refund will be transferred to the original credit/debit card or bank account if the amount is paid online. Otherwise, for payment made in non-U.S. funds drawn on a bank outside the United States, the refunds would be initiated only after 12 weeks.

Candidate’s ability will be analyzed in four skill areas Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. Scores of all four areas will be combined to deduce the final scores.
TOEFL Scores will be released online approximately 10 days after conducting the test. ETS will send the official scores directly to the institutions of student’s preference that they need to provide while registering for the test.

Speaking- In this section, the candidate’s English speaking skills will be evaluated to know how clearly they can convey their thoughts without any grammatical and vocabulary error. To qualify this, candidates should practice speaking on a familiar topic for at least 20 minutes. You can select either academic or non-academic topic (hobbies, travel, sports, etc). In another step, collect a few images from magazine and newspaper, elaborate it in one minute and repeat the same by using different phrases and adjectives.
Academic & General Reading- This section helps in determining one’s level of understanding of the different academic test. Candidates have to read a basic comprehension passage to find information and to learn. There will be 3 or 4 reading passages with 12 to 14 questions each passage. Candidates should solve them within 60 to 80 minutes. Regularly reading university textbooks or other materials on a variety of areas including sciences, arts, social sciences, business, etc. can help in improving the reading ability. Improve your reading speed to make the most of this section.
Academic & General Listening- Candidate’s ability to understand spoken English will be tested through this section. There will be different academic lectures/ Audiotapes and CDs of books that candidates need to listen carefully. Afterward, candidates have to answer a few questions and summarise the lecture in the best possible way. To improve their listening skills, candidates should watch movies and television shows or listen to the radio. It also assists in improving vocabulary. For the academic test, listen to academic programs of NPR and BBC broadcasts. After listening to a particular topic, ask yourself different questions such as what, why, how, when. Beginners can start watching movies with subtitles and later move to without subtitle.
Academic & General Writing- It is 50 minutes test where candidates need to perform an Integrated Writing Task and an Independent Writing Task. In the Integrated Writing Task, a short passage from an academic lecture will be displayed on the computer screen for almost 3 minutes. Candidates will also receive the audio along with the text. Afterward, candidates have to write a summary including important points of the lecture. Make sure the passage is free from grammatical or spelling error. In Independent writing task, candidates have to write an essay that states your opinion on an issue.
