How can I stand out from the other applicants?

My biggest advice on this is that you should be spiked, not well rounded. That means that if you're passionate about something, go all out on it. For example, if you're passionate about economics, take the hardest economics class available at your high school, do economics research, start a company or social enterprise, take online courses on MOOCs etc. This is just an example for economics but it can be applied to any other subjects. Even if you're undecided, make sure that your activities can be linked up in some way
