(Note: This question was asked at a presentation I made at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in Chennai, December 2019.)

College education in the U.S. gives freedom to students to choose courses. Apart from taking courses that satisfy the minimum requirements for their major, students are allowed to take courses from different departments. This enables them to approach real-world problems in unconventional ways, thus helping to broaden their horizons. U.S. education system is heavily research-driven. There are a plethora of research opportunities for undergrad students in STEM and non-STEM fields. The holistic education system in the United States better prepares students for their long-term goals.
