In general you need a high GPA to be accepted by the top US Colleges. To give you examples, here are the average GPAs that got recent admissions to the following Colleges:
Stanford - GPA 4.18
Berkeley - unweighted GPA 3.85, weighted 4.39
CMU - GPA 3.84
Harvard- GPA 4.04
MIT - GPA 4.13
Duke University - GPA 4.17
Princeton University - GPA 3.87
University of Pennsylvania - GPA 3.9
