Hi,
As you probably know, each US College has its own criteria and requirements for admission. These include a number of categories. So, the GPA is one of those categories - while very important has to be evaluated in the context of all the other categories.
Each college has a range of GPAs that they end up accepting and do publish the average GPAs of the incoming class. BUT it is looked at in conjunction with the other parameters that make up your college application.

Additionally, the GPAs also depend on the High School you attend, the courses you take and the difficulty levels.

For your benefit, I am re-producing the response to an earlier question on the Forum.
Hope this helps. Please don't hesitate to ask us further questions.

While each US College has its own set of requirements and admission criteria, broadly they are the following:
SAT Scores - typically a range for each college
GPA - average
Class Rank
Coursework in High School
Marks/Grades in School Courses
Extracurriculars - what you participated in and ones you excelledThe College Applications (e.g., Common Application or Coalition Application) typically have
- Essays - depends on the college
- Letters of recommendation from School Teachers
- Letter of recommendation from Counselor
